17 February 2011, Thursday, 2230 hrs.
Aloha Brethren,
At about 12 noon today (10 ½ hours ago, sorry so late), Bobby Schmidt called and asked me to plug into our network of emails, and disperse the information for SLASH’S SERVICES. (Waynauld Ernestberg). Anyone getting this information, please pass it on to others that I may have missed. Whether people can attend or not, just give the rest of the Bethren, a heads up on this GREAT, ONE-OF-A-KIND BROTHER!!! Slash, the world will miss you!!!
SERVICES and RECEPTION to be held at the Bishop Museum
March 5th, 2011, Saturday
10 am to 11 am – Visitation
11 am to 12 noon – Services
Schmidt and others will be pitching in and cooking at Bishop Museum, to accommodate all the people that will be attending his services. Hey, if you are able to attend, please jump in and help…again, for our Bruddah…SLASH.
(Just a little note: Bobby related that earlier during the day of his passing, Slash had called Bobby to ask if he was going to the funerals of Alonzo DeMello and Lt. Ben Yee. Slash further informed Bobby, that he also had to go to a funeral down in Nanakuli…THREE FUNERALS. With sadness, SLASH himself, passed away that evening. Brethren…life is but a mist.)
Secondly, and with equal sadness, I received the below information on the services for Dougie Tanaka, from Clarence DeCaires, as follows: (cut and paste)
Aloha Guys,
Per Capt. Carey Okimoto of HRD the funeral services for retired police officer Doug Tanaka will be on Feb. 24, Thursday at Nuuanu Cemetery (Nuuanu Av) with visitation starting at 1630 hours and services to follow......Clarence DeCaires
I asked Bruddah Clarence to give a little more information, for us that did not know Dougie personally. He wrote the following in a subsequent email:
Hi Lary,
Doug retired in '05 as a Detective from IA. In the 80's he was in Vice with John Lum.....Clarence
Brethren, there is a third AND fourth passing of our Brethren also. I just found this other email from Clarence DeCaires about a ½ hour ago. (Since Clarence officiates at many a fallen brethren’s funeral, I asked him to please email me with the passings of any and all officer’s, as I’ve been the unofficial keeper of the Roll Call for Schmidt & Burke’s Hui Ana, the HPD Big Island Ohana and I also share all the information with our Brethren in the Retiree’s Club (Vernon Ka’ahanui and now C.E. “Rags” Scanlan) and with Malcolm Chang of the Pacific Northwest. IF ANY of you would also like to shoot me information as a clearing house, I don’t mind it at all, to disperse the info on our Brothers. That’s the least, I could do. Here goes, another cut and paste from Clarence DeCaires:
Hi Lary and Jo,
It is by accident that I came across these two names in the newspapers:
Harry Msato Kohagura (75) of Mililani died Jan 19, 2011 private services. Obit on Tuesday
Also George Yau Hook Young (87) of Kaneohe died Jan 14, 2011 and his services was today. Obit on Monday.
That’s it for now Brothers. I pray, there be a huge break before we have to announce anymore.
Please take this time to bow your hearts in a moment of silence, lifting these Brothers up in thought and/or in prayer, that God’s Mercy and Grace will abound in their eternal lives. Also, our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and acquaintances…for comfort and understanding. May we all continue to bond in the Brotherhood…as One Body.
Dear Lord, a special request please: If our Brother Slash is missing, he’s probably in some corner of Heaven, selling fireworks…and other stuff. Please have your angels keep a special eye out for him, for all of us, that love him. Amen.
A Celebration of Life, to All.
Aloha Guys, lary.
P.S. In all of this, please don't forget also, Brother Ben Yee and his family, another recent passing.
