Hi to ALL,
Many of you may have heard by now, but I'm just spreadin' (or respreadin' the word).
1. Our Brother, Lt. Ben Yee has passed away the other day, from a motorcycle accident I believe he was involved in, around Jan 25 or 26th.
2. I think you folks also heard, that George Perry had passed away the other week as well. He was not a police officer BUT, well knowngst by many police
officers, athletes, etc., etc., etc., and a nice man.
3. Schmidt called me at 0801 hrs., this morning to ask me to spread the word about Waynauld "Slash" Ernestberg's passing. Bobby had received a call at 0400
hrs. this morning from Jimmy Lewis, then received a call from Slash's son, at about 0700 hrs. Many of us know about his diabetic condition, that he had a
couple of his toes amputated (almost like Joe Ledbetter, who has all his toes amputated - please continue to keep him in prayer too) and, Slash also had a
pacemaker inserted. He was to go to the doctors for check up today, went to the bar to drink with some friends and collapsed. He was rushed to the
hospital and was pronounced dead. Charlie Langer said it was a massive heart attack. Bobby will probably be asked to give his eulogy and as we all know, he said Slash was a "one-of-a-kind" person.
Please especially keep his son in prayer, as he and his father were very close. He does not know where to start, but Bobby will guide him.
4. On a more lighter note, I received an email from Rags Scanlan about 0020 this morning. The Old Timer's Retiress Club (I heard some people don't like
the moniker "The Old Timers", formally named "Aha Hui O Na Maka'i Hauola") has a new set of officers, Board and President. They are:
OFFICERS
C.E. Rags Scanlan - President
Christine Gaylord - VP
Karen Lum - Secretary
Bertha Naho'opi'i - Treasurer (25 years running)
BOARD
Jeff Yamanutsa
Donald Dias
Bentley Alama
Karen Lum
Evelyn Keli'ihomalu
Vernon Ka'ahanui did a tremendous job, taking the organization to new heights. Rags is open and willing to keep the organization progressive and collectively, coming up with new ideas. He will be supporting our HPD Big Island Ohana 10-3 as well, as Vernon has done in the past. Infact, I believe he wants ALL retiree's, even from every outer island and the Pacific Northwest, etc., to be kept abreast with what the Retiree's Club is all about, and doing. That would be GREAT.
Any time any of you are in Honolulu on vacation, short trip, doctor appointments, whatevers, please contact them and find out when their luncheons are. Bobby Schmidt just mentioned to me this morning, that our Brother Mel Kaonohi flew in last week from Hilo, to be at their February luncheon. That is neat representation from the Big I. Their luncheons are every other month...hence: next ones are in April, June, August, October & December. It is always neat to fellowship with offcers and employees of HPD, that we have not seen for AGES. Time is short and many of us are heading for the last round up. Fellowshipping with people we have spent more time with than our high school mates, family, etc., IS SUPER AWESOME.
Lastly but not leastly, I apologize for taking so long to put out our wrap-up Newsletter for our Vegas 2010 trip last October. At this juncture, I am in the process of composing the newsletter, and will ALSO use this issue to announce our upcoming 7th Annual HPD Big Island Ohana 10-3, slated for Aug 20th, 2011, Saturday, at the Aunty Sally's Kaleohano Hall in Hilo. Please see the newsletter for more details. (Don't forget, Bobby Schmidt's and Steven Burke's Hui Ana on Oahu is normally the first Friday of August, which would make it on the 5th. I'll be flying in to Honolulu for my 5th consecutive year, to lend a hand in their 20th Annual celebration. Please join in, if you can).
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, before I forget: Per our Vice Chairman Warren Ferreira, Doug Gibb will be flying in to Hilo on or about April 12th, for a week, to ready their home up by the Volcano, for he and his wife to move back to Hawai'i, after all these years in Iowa. We already have a scheduled monthly luncheon the next day on April 13th, and are excited for him to attend. Just thinking: Living back here in Hawaii, the Big Island, we hope to have him and his wife at all the future Annual Hilo events and our monthly luncheons. Anyone having served under Chief Gibb, please seriously consider flying up here in August for our 7th Annual, and help us to WELCOME him and his wife, BACK HOME...lol...
Das it for now. I gotta get this off and also, post a thread on our hpdbigislandohana.com website, to reach more Brethren. Anyone receiving this email, please pass it on to others not listed on the email addy section please.
Meanwhile, God Bless, Malama Pono & A Hui Hou, lary.
Oh, and as Rags would say, "Fa'afetai Lava".
