Aloha All (7 June 2010, Monday)
With sadness, I have received information of three other former officers, that have passed on. Just received information from Jeff Yamanutsa that the funeral for Carl Morikawa was to be held this past Friday. Per Yamanutsa, Morikawa retired after 25 years with HPD and was with them at the AG's Office.
This morning, received a call from Steve Magnani. He stated that Ray Simao (former HPD and Ret. Capt with Hilo PD) has passed on. We knew that Ray has had some heart operations/episodes the past couple years. Also, "Buster" Pedro has passed on from throat cancer. Please keep their families in your prayers, during these difficult times.
Magnani also stated that Simao's funeral on the Big Island will be on June 19th, the date of his birthday, per his wife Mona. He did not know which mortuary, yet. Please check the Hawaii Tribune. Other than that, for all of us who plan to attend, please wear one of you polo shirts of our annual gatherings up here on the Big I. Preferrably, please wear your black polo with our badge logo but if yours has gone south, please wear ANY color with our Annual HPD badge logos on it. As of recent, Ray was with the armed security at the Hilo Airport with John Veneri and all of the retired officers from Hilo P.D.
Anyone having more information on other Brethren who may have left us, please post on this medium directly. Or, if you want to, please email me the information at Kamehameha669@hotmail.com, and I will cause it to be posted here.
On a "little" lighter side BUT requiring just as much prayer (or more), please keep Clem Enoka, Fred Schults, "Papa Bear" Chaz Langer and Bobby Yarnell and their families, in your prayers.
When I flew to HNL last week from Hilo, I had the opportunity to visit with a couple Brethren.
1) Clem Enoka - was at Kaiser Hospital...been there for at least a couple months. The day after I visited with him, he said the next day he will be transferred to the Monarch Ward (?) BEHIND of the Kaiser Hospital, and could still receive visitors there. He was going into rehab. Basically, please keep him in prayer for his diabetic condition and he also mentioned that his kidneys had failed. He was on dialysis. (Please also keep in prayers, his wife as well. She has her physical maladies too.) I specifically asked Clem about putting out a call for prayers for their situations. He said, "YES".
2) Visited with Bobby Yarnell (times 2) at the Oahu Care Facility at 1808 S. Beretania St. (second bldg Ewa of Artesian St., across from Olivet Baptist Church). He is alert, can't formulate his thoughts into words, but constantly says "Brandy, Brandi, Randy" (Brandy is his eldest daughter, who is with HPD). He is alert and strong as an ox...we armed wrestled.) I tried to fool him my throwing in another word, like "Brandy, Brandy, Bender" and he repeated it, exactly. HENCE, he is aware. When he tries to say anything, albeit unsuccessfully, he will just say "Oh S**t" and keep repeating "Brandy, Brandy, Brandy".
Please keep him in prayer for recovery and also, for his wife and family. Nora had to take a break and fly back to Hilo, for some rest. It has been overwhelming. It is their hope that Bobby can be rehabbed sufficiently, to bring him pack to Pahoa on the Big I.
3) Someone mentioned also, that Chief Keala has some medical challenges. Whether so, or not, please keep him in your prayers as well.
LASTLY BUT NOT LEASTLY (lol), please go to our website, the home page, and scroll all the way down to the bottom, and click on to the newsletter. The latest newsletter is the June 2010 issue and it give all the information for our VEGAS 2010 event (Oct 27 thru Nov 1). Others joining us will be Steve Magnani and his party of 4...AND, George Chock and Martha in Vegas (he is in charge of Security for the Nevada governor). George is willing to be the Vegas liaison for our event, and he will be hustling ALL the former HPD officers/personnel in Vegas, to JOIN US OUT OF TOWNERS, at our event. COME ONE, COME ALL. Hurry and get your forms and payments in, asap. I had to shorten the deadline dates. From all of those saying they WANT TO/WILL MAKE IT, we should have ABOUT 100+/- Vegas Bound Brethren of the Blue.
Aloha, Take Care and God Bless, lary.
