Aloha All, just to give you a little heads-up from Clarence DeCaires, who officiated at Chief Soper's funeral services. See below please:
Hi Lary,
It was A/C Orby Groves that ask me to do his friends funeral so he gave the eulogy followed by Joe Aviero, Buzzy Hong, Steven Burke, Bobby Schmidt, Billy Ornellas and some of Sharon Soper's friends. Also Dave Heaukulani, Eddie Ross, Earl Thompson, Charlie Duncan, Charlie Awai, Merv Lyons, Jerry Lee, A/C Mark Nakagawa, Alice Ome with her camera, Vernon Kaahanui, Bull Bennett, Ray Ancheta, thingyie Fujita, Chief Lee Donohue, Bradda Faulkner, Bill Gulledge, Karl Godsey,Mahi Pakelo, Hal Bradbury, Carlson Kauahi, Richard Lovell, Willy Makanui, Ralf Oide, Raymond Pagan (his daughter brought him), Jerry Pahukula, Pro Golfer Guy Yamamoto, Al Torco, Donald Wong and many more who showed they cared....Clarence
Thanx Clarence for your ministry. Bobby told me he was calling a bunch of guys to attend, specifically Buzzy, Burke, Lyons and others. Chief Soper was a remarkable man...he saved many a policeman's job.
Another brother told me a couple evenings ago too, Soper told him to get out of the Department, when the brother had an opportunity to become an air traffic controller. Soper told the brother that if you remain a policeman, you are either going to become an alcoholic, fool around, or become a criminal. Again, Soper told him to get out, asked him how many days of leave he had, arranged it so that the brother overlapped both ends in affect having monies for the transition and gave him a year in which to return to the Dept., saying "You see ME...nobody else."
Best move the Brother ever had. He even became a pilot and, he is called back on a contractual basis, to give air traffic control classes.
Many, many people...owe Chief Soper. God Blesses men who give of themselves, to others.
