5 May 2010, Wednesday...
Happy Cinco De Mayo to All,
Since I have to get this to everyone that I know the email addys of AND onto our HPD Big Island Ohana website, I am typing it on Word Pad and will cut and paste (so I don't have to type the entire message, twice).
We need the support and prayers of the Brethren in Blue again, please.
PASSINGS
A/C THOMAS SOPER'S SERVICE
Rcvd a call from Bobby Schmidt today. He asked that I help spread the word for the service of A/C Soper..."The Policemen's Policeman". Chief Soper's service will be held at the Oahu Cemetery on 11 May 2010, Tuesday. 9-10 am viewing and 10-11 am, service. He said he did not see anything in the newspapers YET, but wanted everyone to know.
Sad thing is this: Bobby called both HPD & HPRA and both offices, did NOT have the information on Chief Soper. They now know. Normally, they wait for the family members to call them. Chief has a daughter in Hawaii and one on the mainland BUT neither one of them KNEW what to do. Sad. Hence, Bobby has taken the reins as usual, to make notification for them. He then asked me to get the word out, so that whomever can, will show up and pay homage to this beautiful man, Tom Soper. He will be cremated.
Bobby told me he will contact Buzzy Hong, Steven Burke, Merwyn Lyons, etc. (Vowed to Bobby I would make notification for him, should he go before me, and vice versa. Seriously folks, I think we should have a network going, to help the families of Brethren, in these type of times.)
RALPH IWAI
(Just rcvd word today, 5 May 2010, that he had passed on. Please keep his family in prayer.)
RALPH KUNIO IWAI
68, of Honolulu, died April 19, 2010. Born in Honolulu. Retired Honolulu Police Department officer; U.S. Air Force veteran. Survived by wife, daughters, one granddaughter; mother. Private service held. Arrangements by Hosoi Garden Mortuary.
Published as a death notice by The Honolulu Advertiser on 05/01/2010.
(***lary. As a rookie patrolling in the Kaimuki area in 1969, I had the opportunity to be a beat partner of Ralph. He was a quiet, nice man. Never said more than he had to. Other beat partners at that time were Richard Lovell, Richard Hashimoto, Thomas Hirayama, Ronald Dias, Michael Carvalho and Jimmy Bruhn. Our sergeant, Robert Dunaway.)
PRAYERS NEEDED PLEASE
ROBERT YARNELL
Spoke with Bobby's son, Lance, tonight. They ask for your conintued prayer support. If anyone has a chance to visit Bobby, he is at Oahu Care Facility at 1808 S. Beretania St. (the bldg next to the old 7-11 Office, just kkhd of Central Union Church.)
Per Lance, his dad suffered a pretty dibilitating stroke and was medevac'ed from Hilo to HNL several weeks ago. For the first 2-3 weeks, Bobby had a hard time breathing. He is now getting therapy at the facility (motor skills, verbal, etc.). He is progressing very slowly and can say words like father, mother, brother, etc. He can understand, knows there are people around him, but cannot put it all together. Lance returned to Hilo last Friday (30 Apr) but have since received reports that his father does have some facial expressions now (smile, laughing, crying). Said his father is not strong enough to use his right side. He has a hard time swallowing and has a tube in his stomach. Initially, his dad had an 80% blockage of the artery on the right side. Lastly, Lance related that his dad still has to undergo surgery to remove his bladder. Meanwhile, they have to hold off, as he is still on blood thinners...not good to go into surgery.
CLEM ENOKA
Bruddah Gervin Miyamoto said he visited with Clem in the hospital recently. Said Clem is progressing with his diabetic condition. Thank God. Schmidt visited with him a few weeks back as well. Please keep this Bruddah in your prayers too.
FORREST BROOME
Please keep this caring Brother in your prayers. He will be undergoing surgery on 2 June. That's all the info I have on this Braddah...for now.
CHARLIE LANGER
Braddah Chazzz, needs constant prayers. He still has to have more surgeries for his cancerous condition. Inspite of the tons of surgeries, Braddah is always in good spirits.
RAYMOND SCANLAN
Every so often, I receive a call from this Bruddah. He has outlived his doctors sentence by two years now. Bruddah is tough and told his doctor that she is not Jesus. ONLY Jesus tells him when he is gonna die. Absolutely right. If you recall, Ray had a liver transplant, had diabetes, hbp and other maladies. He still needs our support and prayers. Many have visited him on Kunawai Lane, off of Liliha St.
FRED SCHULTZ
I'm not sure about his specifics but Bobby Schmidt told me he is in grave condition. Please keep this Brother in your prayers as well. God knows his condition and ailments. We just need to pray for the Brother please.
BUTCH COX
For continued healing. He is now back at home in Papaikou on the Big Island.
I know there are more. Please email me and we can get the Brethren to lift up one another, in prayers. Any support, is always welcomed. If visits are allowed, that is always welcomed.
God Bless & Malama Pono, lary.
PLEASE PASS this on, to your network of Brethren, by cutting and pasting. There is power in numbers. More people praying...DA BETTAH.
