Aloha All,
This past weekend I flew to Vegas to meet face to face (it's always better...they tell you a heck of a lot more than just a voice on the phone) to shop for Vegas 2010...with 6 different hotels, event rooms for catering, sleeping rooms, checking out the pluses and minuses of the different amentities they have to offer our huge group, airfare/room and room only packages for others coming from the mainland and/or, for those that have their mileage programs or other preferences for airlines, etc.)...RESULTING IN THE FOLLOWING.
Instead of holding our huge trek to Vegas at the end of Oct of 2010, consideration is now being given to the 2nd or 3rd week of August of 2010, contrary to the article I wrote in our JUST RELEASED Newsletter at the end of this past month (Feb.).
WHY? Simply put, the consensus by the hotel, catering departments, etc. in Vegas this past week was this: A NEW huge group has a better shot to their huge banquet rooms in August, rather than the boom filled Octobers. Also, the weather is not as cold (more condusive for golfing, bike riding, tours) and the rooms/packages are generally MORE AFFORDABLE, than the most busiest months of the year...Sept and Oct.
Lastly, amongst the hotels I checked with, with a near fine tooth comb (California, Fremont, Main St., Golden Nugget, Cannery and Orleans), the MAIN headquarter hotel may work out to be the Orleans, subject to working things out with them. It may change BUT, the Orleans appear to be the one with the more pluses.
They have a bowling alley for the non golfers. They have the huger rooms for a huge Awards Banquet Dinner/performance (for bowling, golfing, slots tourney if we have one, etc.) The Orleans is a straight ride up from the airport on Tropicana Ave., above the Strip...a hop, skip and jump to the Strip, for those wanting to go there. I also discovered that the Police Olympics headquarter hotel is just about 6 miles away from the Orleans. IF IT WORKS OUT, that is another Activity some of us may want to participate in...SUPPORTING our HPD athletes on any given day (past and present). They can dib into our event as well...if they so desire. I will come up will a full itinerary of OPTIONS, that we all (or individually) can buy into...or not.
Again, general consensus will be the guiding factor and anyone can plug into, our out of, anything they wish too.
Thoughts, please email me at Kam66@hawaii.rr.com and/or call me at (808)966-4348. If not in, please leave a SPECIFIC message and time/date you called.
God Bless, Malama Pono and A Hui Hou, lary.
